Life Skills - Quarter 1

LIFE SKILLS

1.) Home Job:
My home job to get my ingredients was to do cat related things like brushing my cat, and doing the vacuuming. After that my dad took me to Tamimi to get the ingredients, it all cost about 24 riyals.

2.) Ingredients:
The ingredients for Life Skills were to go and get cake mix (French vanilla), eggs, oil, non-stick spray, and that was about it.

3.) Cooking Buddy:
Since I forgot my ingredients for the first day, I was Adnan’s cooking buddy. The sad thing was that I had to do the cleaning, (that stunk).

4.) What you baked:
Because I didn’t have my ingredients, Adnan and I baked brownies. They smelled really good.

5.) What money did you make:
I didn’t get any money, because I was Adnan’s assistant, so it wasn’t that fun without money. (I even didn’t get paid for doing the dirty work).

6.) Where we went:
Our class went to the Panda which is near by. Jennifer got to be my partner. We put our money together, and it equaled 10 riyals, but Ji-man gave Jennifer some money because she was helping him when she forgot her ingredients, and we had 14 riyals. We wanted to make cake, that would taste good/smell good.

7.) Buddy/Parent helper:
My buddy was my friend, Jennifer, who had made popcorn last class. We had a really nice parent helper, name Ms. Momoe, she was a Japanese lady.

8.) What we bought:
Jennifer and I bought cake mix (rainbow/sprinkles), blue sprinkles, eggs, and vanilla frosting. We had a fun time looking for our ingredients, because they were all in one different shelf, so we couldn’t find them at first.

9.) What we paid:
Jennifer and I got our ingredients and headed to the check out aisle. It added up to 15 or 18 riyals. But we only had 14 riyals, we smiled, and got a discount (note: remember to use later on!), and it could happen again.


10.) What you baked:
Jennifer and I baked a rainbow cake, it looked really tasty (even the left over batter), we also made 2 pans worth of cake, because we couldn’t find a big enough pan.

11.) Who you sold it to:
When Jen* and I came into the class, our desks smelled really good. After lunch, some people like Nancy, and Ziad broke their fast (uh oh), and Pj, Wasi, and Miwa got cake, Pj went into a sugar rush.

12.) Money:
The money Jen and I made was about 36 riyals (big improvement), and we still have a few I.O.U’s left. It was really cool about how much we made! 14 goes up to 36, WOW!

13.) 3 important things I learnt:

• How to make enough money.
• Smile a lot when your short on money (NOTE: most of the time it works when a kid smiles)
• Spend your money on the most important things (in this case: cake)
• When you finish shopping, your can go window shopping!!

* Jen is Jennifer's (Joo-young) nickname..because to me it is so much easier than saying Jennifer. :-)
